Authorities have arrested Arvin Joseph Mirasol, a 34-year-old cabin steward from the Philippines, following his admission to placing hidden cameras in various staterooms aboard Royal Caribbean International’s Symphony of the Seas. This arrest occurred in Fort Lauderdale on March 3, 2024, as the ship returned from an 8-night journey through the Southern Caribbean, signaling Royal Caribbean’s unwavering commitment to guest privacy and security.
Mirasol, who has been with the Symphony of the Seas since December 2023, specifically targeted certain guests, including younger passengers, demonstrating a disturbing invasion of privacy. His strategy involved not only installing cameras in select staterooms but also repositioning them across different sailings and, shockingly, hiding under beds while guests were in the shower.
The discovery came to light early in the voyage when a vigilant guest found a camera hidden under the sink in her stateroom bathroom. She, along with two female family members, immediately reported the device to the ship’s security team, leading to Mirasol’s detention for the remainder of the cruise. Following the incident, Royal Caribbean took decisive steps, terminating Mirasol’s employment and handing him over to the authorities as the ship docked.
