Carnival Cruise Line has announced significant itinerary adjustments affecting 12 upcoming cruises on three of its popular ships: the Mardi Gras, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Spirit. These changes, set to take place between May 2025 and January 2026, will impact several scheduled port visits, offering guests updated routes and modified port times. While some ports are being swapped or replaced, Carnival has reassured passengers that all necessary adjustments to excursions and activities will be automatically handled by the company.

Changes to the Mardi Gras Itineraries

Carnival has revealed that three upcoming cruises onboard the Mardi Gras will undergo changes. These cruises include departures scheduled for May 3 and May 13, 2025. Both are seven-night itineraries to the Caribbean, which will now feature altered port times and possibly different days for certain port stops. In a noteworthy update, the Mardi Gras’ February 12, 2026, cruise also saw changes, including swapping dates for visits to popular destinations Amber Cove and Grand Turk.

This adjustment ensures that passengers still experience these beautiful ports, albeit on different days than originally planned. Amber Cove, a popular cruise destination in the Dominican Republic, and Grand Turk in Turks and Caicos are both favorites for Carnival cruisers due to their picturesque beaches and variety of shore excursions.

Eight Cruises Adjusted for the Carnival Freedom

The Carnival Freedom, another staple of Carnival’s fleet, has undergone even more extensive itinerary changes, affecting eight different cruises. Among these is the May 5, 2025, departure, which has seen its visit to Bimini replaced with a stop at Amber Cove. Bimini, located in the Bahamas, is known for its crystal-clear waters and pristine beaches, while Amber Cove offers a more culturally immersive experience in the Dominican Republic. This switch reflects Carnival’s efforts to provide guests with diverse and exciting travel experiences.

Five of Carnival Freedom’s Bahamian cruises, including those scheduled for September 4, September 27, 2025, and January 17, March 23, 2026, will no longer include a stop at Half Moon Cay, another iconic Bahamian port. Instead, these sailings will visit Princess Cays, another private island in the Bahamas. Princess Cays offers guests an exclusive resort-style atmosphere with beachside activities, water sports, and more—creating a luxurious stop for vacationers.

In addition to these changes, the December 1, 2025, sailing will see a day swap between visits to Nassau and Princess Cays, allowing for a modified schedule that accommodates these destinations more efficiently. Furthermore, the January 12, 2025, cruise onboard Carnival Freedom will feature swapped days for visits to Celebration Key and Nassau. The March 1, 2026, departure also reflects a similar switch between Nassau and Princess Cays, offering flexibility in the cruise schedule while retaining the highlights of these iconic destinations.

Carnival Spirit to Visit New Ports

The Carnival Spirit has also seen some itinerary modifications, including a significant change to its November 30, 2025, cruise. During this sailing, Bimini will replace Nassau as a port of call, offering passengers a different taste of the Bahamas. Bimini, located just 50 miles from Florida, is known for its relaxed, laid-back atmosphere, making it an ideal stop for passengers seeking both relaxation and adventure.

In addition, the Carnival Spirit’s visit to Celebration Key has been rescheduled to a different day, and all port times have been adjusted accordingly. These changes are intended to maximize the enjoyment of each destination while accommodating the overall cruise schedule.

Carnival’s Commitment to Passenger Experience

Carnival Cruise Line remains committed to ensuring that passengers experience seamless travel despite these itinerary changes. In their official statement, Carnival assured guests that any shore excursions booked directly through the cruise line will be automatically adjusted based on the updated itineraries. This means that passengers won’t need to worry about rebooking or changing plans; the cruise line will handle everything for them.

If any ports have been removed from the itinerary, Carnival will issue refunds for excursions tied to those ports, ensuring that guests are not out of pocket for changes beyond their control. Refunds will be processed directly to the original form of payment, providing a smooth and stress-free experience.

Why These Itinerary Changes Are Beneficial

While itinerary changes can initially seem like a hassle, they often result in a better overall experience for passengers. Cruise lines like Carnival regularly make adjustments to ensure safety, avoid overcrowded ports, or to take advantage of better port availability. In many cases, passengers find themselves visiting ports that are even more interesting or accommodating than originally planned.

For example, Amber Cove offers a rich cultural experience in the Dominican Republic, while Bimini is celebrated for its unspoiled beauty and proximity to Florida. Similarly, Princess Cays provides an exclusive island experience, offering passengers a private paradise to enjoy water activities, beach relaxation, and island exploration.

By making these changes in advance, Carnival Cruise Line is prioritizing both guest safety and satisfaction, ensuring that each cruise offers the best possible experience for its passengers.

What Guests Should Expect

Passengers booked on any of the affected cruises should keep an eye on their emails or Carnival’s official website for further updates. While these itinerary changes may require some adjustment to personal plans, Carnival’s proactive approach ensures that travelers can still enjoy a fantastic vacation, with ample opportunities to explore new and exciting destinations.

If you’re booked on one of these cruises and have any concerns, it’s worth reaching out to Carnival’s customer service team for clarification. They are well-equipped to handle any questions regarding the changes and can help passengers adjust their plans accordingly.

With so many incredible destinations still on the itinerary, Carnival Cruise Line promises that these updated routes will deliver memorable experiences for all passengers onboard the Mardi Gras, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Spirit.
